Standard Machining

All motors of the ST, PD and DB series as well as motors of the SC20 and SC35 series can be ordered with flat-sided shaft (D-Cut).  You can find an overview of the dimensions for the various motor sizes here

Motors with flat-sided shaft can be ordered on the respective product page via the online configurator.

Note:
The stepper motors of the SC41 and SC60 series are equipped ex works with a flat-sided shaft.

Custom Machining

For motors of the ST and DB series as well as IP motors, Nanotec offers various shaft machining options which can be ordered individually or in combination: shaft flattening, shorter shafts, thinner shafts, cross bores, grooves or keyways.

D-Cut

 

In addition to the standard D-Cut, flat surfaces can be prepared according to customer specifications. In addition to the D-Cut flat surface, flattening types such as a 90° flattening or triangular flattening are possible.

Cross Holes

Cross bores enable, among other things, simple fastening of clamping pins and are integrated with the appropriate diameter in the shaft.

Keyway

Shafts with keyway offer increased protection against rotation, especially for applications with changes of load and direction. They key is supplied on request.

The size of the key depends on the shaft diameter:

  • 6.35 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6885 – A 2 x 2 x 12 P9
  • 8 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6885 – A 2 x 2 x 12 P9
  • 14 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6885 – A 5 x 5 x 25 P9

We can supply the key on request. In addition to the keyway, female threads, flat surfaces for adjusting screws, undercuts for the fixing of dowel pins, blind hole threads with different thread sizes etc. can also be manufactured acccording to your drawing.

Woodruff Keyway

Shafts with Woodruff keyway offer increased protection against rotation, especially for applications with changes in load and direction.

Size of the Woodruff key depending on the shaft diameter:

  • 5 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6888 – A 1.5 x 2.6
  • 6.35 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6888 – A 2 x 2.6 or A 2 x 3.7
  • 10 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6888 – A 3 x 3.7 or A 3 x 5 or A 3 x 6.5
  • 14 mm shaft diameter: DIN 6888 – A 5 x 6.7 or A 5 x 7.5 or A 5 x 9

Machined Shaft / Thinner Shaft

Machine shafts are used in situations where toothed wheels, pinions or pulleys with small bore diameter are to be directly attached to the motor shaft.

Note: A motor with two shaft ends (B shaft) is necessary for the subsequent machining of a shaft.

Metric Thread

Metric threads can be cut into the shaft for fastening purposes.

The size of the thread is dependent on the shaft diameter:

  • 4 mm shaft diameter: max. M4
  • 5 mm shaft diameter: max. M5
  • 6.35 mm shaft diameter: max. M6
  • 9.525 and 10 mm shaft diameter: max. M8
  • 14 mm shaft diameter: max. M12

Note:  Linear actuators with trapezoidal thread are better suited for linear movements.

Modifications in Quantity

Various types of shaft modifications are only possible ex works and for a minimum order quantity of 100 pieces.

Bigger Shaft

Bigger or thicker shafts can be manufactured in metric or imperial dimensions and are available for the following motors:

  • ST2818 series up to max. 7 mm
  • ST4118 and ST4209 series up to max. 8 mm
  • ST5918 and ST5909  series up to max. 10 mm

Longer Shaft

Longer motor shafts can be used if direct attachment is not possible. In this case, the permissible radial force of the motors must be taken into consideration. If the permissible bearing load and expected service life are exceeded, a second thrust bearing is necessary.


Special Shaft Forms / Square and Hexagon Shafts

With square or hexagon shafts, working appliances or tools can be changed quickly.


Hollow Shaft

Hollow shafts are used to feed through cables, tubes or laser beams. In addition, hollow shafts can accommodate a fine-pitch screw, trapezoidal lead screw or ball screw for linear movements. In large quantities, hollow shaft motors can also be manufactured with female threads or threaded pins. Single-sided closed hollow shafts or blind holes are also possible.

Knurling

Customized knurling is possible for all motors of the ST and DB series.


Direct Gearing

Shaft ends with direct gearing can be used as input pinion and simplify the direct attachment of gearboxes or toothed racks. Nanotec offers straight and helical toothed versions as well as direct mounting for series applications.


Direct gearing – Timing Belt

Shafts with direct gearing are also suitable for use as toothed belt or synchronous drives.


Brass or Steel Input Pinion

Shafts with fitted pinion simplify the direct attachment of gearboxes or toothed racks. This adaptation is possible for all motors of the ST and DB series as well as for the IP motors.


Plastic Input Pinion

Shafts with fitted pinion simplify the direct attachment of gearboxes or toothed racks. This adaptation is possible for all motors of the ST and DB series as well as for the IP motors.


Worm Gear

Motors equipped with a worm gear can be installed at a 90° angle to the load and offer large reduction ratios and compact size. Worm gears are available in various sizes, materials, tooth types as well as with or without hub.

Note: The axial forces that occur in worm gears must be absorbed and taken into consideration.


Bevel Gear

Motors equipped with a bevel gear can be installed at a 90° angle to the load and offer large reduction ratios and compact size. Bevel gears are available in various materials and versions.


Timing Belt Wheel

Nanotec offers synchronous pulleys in metric and imperial dimensions, with and without hub as well as with and without tapered adapter sleeve.

The following tooth profiles, shapes, pitches and pulley shapes are possible:

  • Trapezoidal profile: MXL, XL, L, H, , XH, XXH, AT3, AT5, AT10, AT20, XXL, SL9, SL12
  • Round profile: 2M, 3M, 5M, 8M, 14M, 20M and CPIII, OmegaHP and HL for higher transmission rates
  • Involute profile: S1M, S1.5M, S2M, S3M, S4.5M, S5M, S8M and reinforced versions MTS8M, HPS, KPS
  • Serration profile: TN5, TN10 and other profiles P2M, P3M, P5M, P8M, T10, Minipitch with all common numbers of teeth, diameter and pitch

Wire Cord Pulley

Wire cords and cables can be used for redirection, allowing the motor to be placed at any position.


Round Belt Pulley

Round belts are used primarily for driving light to medium-heavy objects; simple O-rings are used for small transmission forces and, together with parallel guiding, can also perform transport tasks.


V Timing Belt

V-belt pulleys offer a virtually frictional connection, thereby increasing the transmission power and expanding the application range.


Flat Belt Pulley

With flat belt pulleys, the drive rollers are equipped with flanged pulleys, which cause the belts to center themselves automatically.

Note: Due to the high radial bearing forces, additional round or angular external flanges with integrated ball bearing are recommended.


Chain Wheels

Shafts with chain wheels are used where high forces and powers are necessary. Chain wheels with or without hub, fastening borehole or keyway are available in sizes of 6 and 8 mm as well as with pitches of 1/8", 1/4" and 5/8" according to DIN 8187 and DIN 8188.

Note: Due to the high radial bearing forces, additional round or angular external flanges with integrated ball bearing are recommended.


Track, Friction and Drive Rollers

Shafts equipped with track and drive rollers are used above all in transport systems.


Eccentric Plates

Eccentric drives and cam disks are used for easily and precisely converting a rotary motion into a linear motion. The adjustment travel is 1/1.2/2/2.5/3.5/5/7 mm with reference to 360°.


Spiral Eccenter

Spiral cams are used for adjusting and clamping.


Eccentric Ball Bearing

Eccentric ball bearings offer a very good efficiency and simultaneously a very high number of cycles, making them ideally suited for

  • High-precision piston pumps
  • Diaphragm pumps with very high performance
  • Highly precise positioning systems in the sub-micrometer range

Clamping Bolt

Locking bolts have a concentric wedge surface and enable fast and secure clamping. In applications with limited space, they are also used for automatically readjusting a permanent stop or for length compensation.


Rocker Arm

Rocker arms, articulated arms or actuating levers can be mounted on the shaft for adjustment tasks. The articulated arms are available in various lengths, angles, with precision or threaded boreholes, integrated bearings or return springs.


Handwheels

Handwheels, knobs, knurled knobs, star and cross handle grips as well as adjusting screws can be mounted on the rear motor shaft (B shaft) for manual and adjustment settings.


Codec Discs

Attached timing and slotted disks are ideally suited for the optical, magnetic or mechanical scanning of application-specific processes. They are available in many different versions.

Timing and slotted disks are offered with different shaft holes, with and without grub screw and made of various materials.
